2013 Race Results have been posted!

Race Photos have been posted!

We are excited to announce that the 3rd year of Gung Ho Adventure Race is being moved to a new location. Roundtop Mt Resort and Pinchot State Park have served us well for our first 2 years, but we wanted to keep the race course “new and fresh” for our participants. The new race venue is Michaux State Forest which is located in the area of Pine Grove Furnace, PA.

Michaux has 85,000 acres and is well known for its great hiking and fantastic mt. bike trails.

We will again organize 2 races. (see descriptions below). Our 4 hour race is a perfect choice for duathletes and  triathletes who are looking for something different. We would also like to invite “obstacle course” racers to give adventure racing and the Gung Ho Adventure Race a try. We would also like to challenge any of our past 4 hour racers to make the move to our 10 hour race.

Both the 4 hour and 10 hour races will be sanctioned by the United States Adventure Racing Association (USARA). An annual membership or a one day race license ($8.00) is required for all participants. All teams will be eligible for points in the USARA National Ranking System. Please check out the USARA website for more information.

In addition to USARA, teams in both races will be eligible for points in the North American Adventure Racing Series (NAARS). NAARS is the new and improved East Coast Adventure Racing Series (ECARS). Our 10 hour teams will also be eligible for $500 worth of gear from the NAARS sponsors. Teams must register on the NAARS website to be eligible for the points and gear.

4 Hour Race Description (1pm -5pm)

Our 4 hour race is designed for novice adventure racers. Teams will be composed of 2 or 3, and new for 2013, solo racers (solo racers are required to contact us for approval before registering). Teams will run/trek, boat, mt. bike and use basic map reading skills to traverse the course. The running/trekking will be a mix of pavement, dirt trails and off trail. Off trail or bushwacking checkpoints will be optional for teams that would like to give trickier navigation a try. Mt biking will be on pavement, dirt roads and trail. We suggest you use a mt. bike (not a hybrid) and have some experience on trails other then rail trails. The boating will be on flat water.

There is no set course for adventure races. Basic map reading and decision making will determine how teams will get from checkpoint to checkpoint.

Our 4 hour race is designed to easily allow nearly every team to finish the mandatory course in roughly 3 hours. If teams have extra time and energy, they will be able to visit optional checkpoints to accumulate extra points.

The 4 hour race will be limited to 30 teams.

10 Hour Race Description (8am -6pm)

Our 10 hour race is designed for the more experienced adventure racers. Teams will be composed of 2 or 3, and new for 2013, solo racers (solo racers are required to contact us for approval before registering). Teams will run/trek, boat, mt. bike and use navigation skills to traverse the course. The running/trekking will be a mix of pavement, dirt trails and off trail. Mt biking will be on pavement, dirt roads and trail. We suggest you use a mt. bike (not a hybrid) and have some experience on trails other then rail trails. The boating will be on flat water. Navigation and decision making will determine how teams will get from checkpoint to checkpoint.

Our 10 hour race is designed to allow nearly every team to finish the mandatory course in roughly 7 hours. If teams have extra time and energy, they will be able to visit optional checkpoints to accumulate extra points.

The 10 hour race will be limited to 30 teams.
